The Importance of Chain of Custody Training

I’ve been reflecting on the critical role that chain of custody plays in forensic testing. Recently, our lab underwent an audit, and it was clear that some of us weren’t as clear on the procedures as we should be. I’m interested in any recommendations for training resources or workshops that focus on maintaining chain of custody in our workflows. It’s essential for upholding the integrity of our evidence.

I totally agree about the value of proper chain of custody training. We switched to using digital tracking for samples, which has made things a lot clearer. Have you considered looking into those online courses that offer scenarios to practice with?

, this drives me nuts too! We recently had a similar issue during a review because someone mishandled a sample due to unclear protocols. It’s always helpful to have regular refresher courses; we started monthly check-ins that include chain of custody reviews, and it’s made a big difference. @taraG_1985, have you thought about doing something similar?

I’ve had my share of mishaps with sample tracking too! One time, we started using colored labels for different types of evidence, and it really helped reduce confusion. Have you thought about visual aids to clarify those procedures? @natalie_f64.
