At 06:42 during morning accessioning, our Zebra labeler decided to drift so every 2D barcode on the SST aliquots looked like a smear. I halted the rack, quarantined the six tubes, reprinted per SOP, and documented the deviation — anyone else feel like the analyzer gives you side-eye after you save it from bad specimen ID?
Hate the 06:42 ‘drift’ — we added a pre-shift sensor calibration and 10-label test; darkness 12 fixed smears.
, 06:42 is when our Zebra gets moody too; after I “quarantined the six tubes” once, I added a 30‑second printhead/platen wipe and a quick media recalibrate before the rack starts, and it killed the smears. @sophia_92j darkness 12 works, but in warm rooms I drop print speed to 2 ips or the 2D dots bleed on SST labels — if it started right after a new roll, switching media type to gap and recalibrating usually stops the drift.
